Blogs: A Pregnant Pause

Pregnancy is a natural, joyous and embraced aspect of being a woman. However, the shadows of becoming pregnant and making this transition are often not spoken of. Many women wait until later in life to have children and becoming pregnant can have a shocking affect on one's identity. Shifting from an established or growing career, an active social life and travel to pregnancy can bring up feelings of loneliness, confusion, fear, jealousy, confrontation or even regret. Resourced from my own pregnancy experience and integrating the stages of pregnancy, I explore with pregnant women many of the common themes that arise such as: changing body image, shifts in sexual desire, relationship and intimacy transition, childbirth fears, motherhood ideals, pregnancy dreams, and developing a relationship with your growing baby. Verbal therapy is interwoven with drawing, clay, movement, storytelling, journaling and music to create a tapestry of moment to moment real and honest reflection and play on this rich nine month journey.
